On 4 September, the head of the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Raphael Grossi, arrived to inspect the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. In a video posted on Telegram, Grossi breaks into a smile when he sees the Russians, hugs them and says he is very happy to see them.
Before that, Grossi met with President Zelenskyy, and the greeting was not as warm.
So far, there are no practical consequences of Grossi’s visit to the occupied ZNPP for Ukraine. It is known that the IAEA head visited the cooling tower that started the fire on 11 August and said that it was no longer fit for use, so it may have to be demolished in the future.
No other statements about ZNPP, such as the one he made about the Kursk NPP, have been made by Grossi so far.
As reported , Raphael Grossi visited the Kursk NPP, after which he spoke about the risks of a nuclear accident at the plant.
