Farion’s murder could have happened earlier: daughter publishes video of first attempt

27 January 15:55

Sofia Semchyshyn, the daughter of linguist Iryna Farion, who was killed in Lviv on July 19 last year, claims that her mother was supposed to be killed two days earlier, on July 17. She reported this on Facebook, posting a video from CCTV cameras, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

“July 17, 2024. You wanted to kill Mom! But… Mom came into the entrance faster than you could have thought in your stupid head. Mom was coming back at 17 hrs. 13 minutes from the last recording of the “Gene of Ukrainians” on the NTA channel. “And you were there on Masaryk Street, kicking and scrabbling with your feet, wearing stupid clothes in 30-degree temperatures and wearing your own mittens. Now you will be punished by God,” Farion’s daughter wrote.

She hopes that the murder suspect, who is currently in custody, will be sentenced to life imprisonment.

“Be patient a little longer and read your ABC of terror and the book of Arestant in Russian. Until the end of your days,” Sofia Semchyshyn said.

She also published a video from the surveillance cameras.

It should be noted that the qualification of the crime was changed for the suspect Vyacheslav Zinchenko, now he faces life imprisonment. He is suspected of premeditated murder of a person in connection with the performance of a public duty on the grounds of national intolerance, and of illegal handling of weapons.

The murder of Iryna Farion and its investigation

on July 19, 2024, political activist and professor at Lviv Polytechnic Iryna Farion was killed by a direct shot to the head on Masaryk Street in Lviv.

Currently, the main suspect in the murder is Vyacheslav Zinchenko, an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro, who has been detained by police and will be held in a pre-trial detention center until at least November 17. The young man has not yet spoken out clearly about his involvement in the murder – he has neither confirmed nor denied it.

Instead, the suspect stated that his arrest was desirable for him, as he was being hunted by Russian special services and radicalized individuals on the loose.

A petition was registered on the government’s website to posthumously award the linguist the title of Hero of Ukraine. The petition has received the required number of votes, and now it is to be considered by the Ministry of Education and Science, whose head Farion called an ignoramus.
