HACCU did not believe in “debt to the state”: Nasirov’s bail of 40 million was not canceled

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has upheld the preventive measure for former head of the State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov, who is suspected of corruption crimes and involvement in the so-called “gas case” of Oleksandr Onyshchenko, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to Transparency International Ukraine, Nasirov’s lawyers asked to cancel his bail of 40 million hryvnias, offering a personal guarantee instead. They argued that the amount of bail was excessive and the list of duties imposed on the suspect was similar to another case.

However, the prosecutor objected to this, recalling Nasirov’s attempt to mobilize, which raised suspicions of possible evasion of responsibility. Ultimately, the court denied the defense’s motion, and the bail remains in effect.

In April, the HACC increased Nasirov’s bail from UAH 27 million to UAH 40 million, partially satisfying the request of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, which insisted on a bail of UAH 75 million or detention.

The investigation believes that the former official’s attempts to mobilize were related to the approaching deadline after which he could no longer be prosecuted. Nasirov himself claimed that he had exclusively patriotic motives.
