Ukrainian civil servants’ salaries are growing, and so are the salaries of other Ukrainians. But not so noticeably

The average salary of central government employees is UAH 57.5 thousand, while at the beginning of the year they received UAH 38.6 thousand, according to materials distributed by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
The leaders among government agencies in terms of average salary are:
The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine – UAH 113.7 thousand;
Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine – UAH 88.5 thousand;
State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine – UAH 87.7 thousand;
The salaries of the heads of state agencies increased even more significantly. The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities retained its leadership – the salary of its management has increased by almost UAH 42 thousand since September, to UAH 330.7 thousand.
High salaries are also observed among the management of other government agencies. For example, the heads of five agencies received more than UAH 200 thousand in salaries.
General salary trends in Ukraine
In the first nine months of 2024, according to the State Statistics Service, the average salary amounted to UAH 20,592, which is 22.2% more than last year. In terms of real wage growth, it slowed to 14.1% year-on-year in the third quarter after 17.6% in the second quarter.
As MP Nina Yuzhanina explains, the reason for such transformations is inflation: in the second quarter, according to official statistics, consumer price growth was only 3.8% year-on-year, and in the third quarter it accelerated to 7.2%.
Wages grew the most in the information and telecommunications sector, where the average salary in the third quarter amounted to UAH 52,589.
Salaries in education remain among the lowest at UAH 14,216.
However, as the deputy states, these are gross figures, as the average salary in the same education sector is UAH 11,444 after tax. And after the military tax is raised, the salary will be only UAH 10,946.
