Sales of electric vehicles have increased in Ukraine: TOP-5 models of February

In February 2025, the Ukrainian car market recorded a significant increase in the popularity of electric vehicles. According to Ukravtoprom, 4,488 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) were registered during the month. This is 14% more than in February 2024, and 23% more than in January 2025, according to Komersant ukrainskyi
Electric vehicle market dynamics
Among the registered electric vehicles, passenger cars dominated – 4360 units, of which:
- 632 – new,
- 3728 – used.
There were 128 registered commercial electric vehicles, of which only 9 were new.
TOP 5 most popular new electric vehicles:
- BYD Song Plus – 115 registrations;
- ZEEKR 7X – 65 registrations;
- VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 – 56 registrations;
- ZEEKR 001 – 46 registrations;
- VOLKSWAGEN ID.Unyx – 45 registrations.
TOP-5 used electric vehicles registered in Ukraine for the first time:
- TESLA Model Y – 430 registrations;
- TESLA Model 3 – 429 registrations;
- NISSAN Leaf – 407 registrations;
- HYUNDAI Kona Electric – 245 registrations;
- KIA Niro EV – 231 registrations.
Statistics show the growing popularity of electric vehicles in Ukraine. The demand for electric cars increased by 68% over the year.
The popularity of electric cars in Ukraine continues to grow due to a number of factors:
- Increasing number of charging stations, which makes operation more convenient.
- Tax benefits and simplified customs clearance of electric vehicles.
- Decrease in the cost of electric cars on the secondary market.
- Rising fuel prices, which stimulates the transition to electric vehicles.
What electric cars were most often imported by Ukrainians in 2024
In total, more than 51.7 thousand zero-emission vehicles (BEVs) were added to the Ukrainian car fleet in 2024, which is 38% more than in 2023. The share of new vehicles in BEV registrations, as in 2023, was 20%.
In 2024, most new battery electric vehicles were imported from China.
Meanwhile, the West is fighting the Chinese electric car industry: The EU is ready to take tough measures against Chinese electric cars, and the US will quadruple tariffs on them.
Electric cars in Ukraine will become more expensive
The benefits for customs clearance of electric vehicles in Ukraine will be valid only until the end of next year, but there is no plan to extend them. This was reported by Kommersant Ukrainian, citing a statement by Danylo Hetmantsev, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy.
The MP explained this position by the uneven tax burden on cars with internal combustion engines and electric cars. According to Danylo Hetmantsev, certain goods should not be exempt from VAT in a country at war.
