Ukraine will change its power outage schedules: how exactly

6 December 18:50

Starting in January 2025, the principle of blackouts may be radically changed and Ukraine may be divided into three zones. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing its own sources, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

Media interlocutors in the energy sector said the following. In order to unify the system of hourly blackout schedules (HBS) and make the restrictions fairer, it was decided to change the instructions for applying the schedules.

Given that it is impossible to introduce the same schedules across the country (this could lead to serious fluctuations in the power system), there is an option to combine the schedules of some regions into several, possibly into three zones with relatively equal consumption, and apply the same outage schedules in each of them.

This way, one zone could include Odesa, Cherkasy, Lviv, and several other regions selected in a staggered manner to avoid creating large continuous areas with simultaneous power outages. In this case, the blackouts will be scheduled at the same time.

But there is another option. Power engineers propose to introduce two sub-sequences and cut off power not one and a half at a time, but one and a half at a time, depending on the situation.
