In Ukraine, IT developers’ salaries have decreased but remain at an average level of about $3,300

The DOU publication has published the results of the winter salary survey, which took place in November-December 2024 and involved more than 5 thousand developers. This is reported on the DOU website, Komersant ukrainskyi informs.
According to the study, developers’ salaries continue to decline: the median salary has decreased by 6% over the past six months.
As for other key results, the authors of the study highlight the following:
– Specialists of all titles are experiencing a drop, but the salaries of developers with 10 years of experience are stable.
– Most languages have seen a drop in salaries, with only Java and TypeScript users showing some positive dynamics.
– Product companies, as well as six months ago, offer higher salaries to developers of all levels, except Lead/Staff/Principal and higher.
– The share of beginners among developers continues to decline.
– In startups, there is a tendency to increase the share of Junior specialists and decrease the share of Senior specialists.

It is noted that the median salaries have decreased for both beginners and experienced developers. The biggest drop is among developers with 4-5 years of experience (minus $200-300 compared to the summer of 2024). The median salary of specialists with more than 10 years of experience in IT has not changed ($5000).
In Kyiv and Lviv, the median salaries of developers have also decreased. In Kyiv, it was due to the salaries of juniors (-$50 to $950 for six months) and seniors (-$200 to $4800). In Lviv, it was due to the salaries of middles (-$200 to $2500), seniors (-$100 to $4600), and leads (-$100 to $5700).
Salaries in Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Odesa remained largely unchanged. In Vinnytsia, there is a tendency for median salaries to increase.

What is the IT industry like in Ukraine in general?
According to the IT Research Ukraine 2024 study, released on November 21 at Lviv IT Cluster, there were 2118 active verified IT companies in Ukraine at that time. Half of them were service companies, namely 47% outsourcing and 3% outstaffing. Another 31% of companies are product companies, and the rest have a mixed business model.

According to the survey, Ukrainian tech companies continue to open new offices, but mostly abroad. Of the 51% of CEOs planning to expand their offices, more than a third want to do so in another country. Poland is the most popular choice for a new location. In addition, 6% of CEOs plan to close an office in Ukraine.
Most companies, namely 97%, financially support the implementation of projects that bring us closer to victory. 67.6% of surveyed companies have mobilized specialists on their staff.
As for IT specialists, their number decreased by 1.6% last year. And now there are 302,000 specialists. Of these, 238,000 live and work in Ukraine. The number of Ukrainian specialists abroad also decreased by 3% compared to the year before last. Currently, their number reaches 62-64 thousand.
In Ukraine, most IT professionals are in the age group of 26 to 35. The number of IT specialists in Ukraine under 25 is decreasing. The average age of a specialist has slightly increased to 31.5 years.
Ukraine is rich in highly skilled technical talent: more than 43% have more than 6 years of total IT experience, including 9% with more than 15 years.
