Starting in 2027, students will study for 12 years as Ukraine introduces a three-year specialised secondary education. This was was announced minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi, reports Komersant ukrainskyi.
The project will be implemented in 2025. Students will be able to choose profiles according to their interests, and from the 9th grade, they will be able to move to an academic lyceum or a vocational college.
“If you choose a vocational college, you enter the labour market with a profession. That’s why you get one more year and, accordingly, a choice of profiles,” explained the head of the Ministry of Education.
Oksen Lisovyi noted that the reform aims to better prepare students for university and also announced upcoming changes in higher education, including the reduction of bachelor’s degrees.
“We are currently working with our team from the Directorate of Higher Education and we are planning to reduce the number of bachelor’s degrees in some areas. We will announce separately when we come to this decision,” said the head of the ministry.
