Emergency power outages introduced in Ukraine

23 December 15:38

On December 23, spot emergency power outages returned to Ukraine. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to a post by YASNO CEO Serhiy Kovalenko on Facebook.

“Kyiv, Dnipro! Ukrenergo has ordered emergency blackouts. Consumption is very high, we need to unload the power system,” Kovalenko wrote.

He also urged Ukrainians not to use elevators and to use energy-intensive appliances more economically.

It is currently known that emergency blackouts have been introduced in at least two regions – Dnipro and Donetsk, as well as in Kyiv.

In the comments, social media users were outraged that Kyiv and Dnipro were left without electricity too often, in their opinion.

  • I thought it would start closer to the weekend.
  • Why Kyiv and Dnipro?
  • Why, if it is necessary to unload the power system, are only Kyiv and Dnipro subject to emergency blackouts? What is the logic of unloading?
  • Don’t worry, Odesa will be added to the list.
  • Of course, it’s great that not only Kyiv and Dnipro have emergency outages. But when, for example, will there be a message that there is an emergency shutdown in Lviv and Uzhhorod?
  • And why can’t some specific groups/subgroups be disconnected to unload the system, so that at least there is some understanding?
  • Why only Kyiv and Dnipro??! Shelling without electricity in Kyiv and Dnipro. There is no shelling without electricity in Kyiv and Dnipro!

In addition, according to regional media, blackouts are currently in effect in Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Cherkasy regions. Residents of Kirovohrad region will also be without electricity for some time.

Meanwhile, Ukrenergo says that the Ukrainian power system is still recovering from twelve massive Russian attacks since the beginning of this year, and there is a significant power shortage. Therefore, the need to conserve electricity remains.
