About 139,000 square kilometers of Ukraine’s territory are currently potentially contaminated with explosive ordnance. To accelerate humanitarian demining, the Ministry of Defense is initiating the creation of a system of testing grounds for the latest demining technologies.
This was discussed during the workshop “Modern Challenges and Innovative Approaches in Mine Action,” Komersant ukrainskyi reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Defense.

“We are creating not just training grounds or databases – we are forming a new security ecosystem where every innovation is tested and every solution is supported by the professional community. This is a systemic infrastructure that works for life,” said Colonel Ruslan Berehulyana, Head of the Main Department of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety.

It is expected that the system of training grounds will have a hybrid model of interaction, which means synchronization of state, educational, production and operator sites for testing the latest solutions.

It is noted that the central element of the future infrastructure will be the Training and Testing Complex for the Development of the Latest Technologies and Innovations in the Field of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety, presented during the event.

The initiative envisages the creation of specialized testing areas (for explosive, water, dynamic tests), a laboratory and analytical base for research and testing, an educational center for training specialists, including international trainings, a platform for testing and approval of new technologies for use.

The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the complex will accelerate the introduction of technologies, improve the quality of operator training, provide serious scientific support for innovation, and become a common platform for interaction between the state, business, science and international organizations.

As a reminder, three districts of Kyiv region – Vyshhorod, Brovary and Bucha – remain the most dangerous in terms of mining.
