Ukraine will not lower the mobilization age – Bloomberg

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken out against lowering the mobilization age in Ukraine. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to a Bloomberg article.

The media outlet writes that as officials in Washington and Kyiv begin to work out the details of how they can bring Putin to the negotiating table and what the structure of the deal should look like, there is a clear divide over Ukraine’s willingness to mobilize additional troops.

Officials from the United States and other Western allies are urging Ukraine to lower the conscription age, while Zelenskiy insists that he needs more guns and missiles than more soldiers.

“Why mobilize even more young people? To have even more people without weapons?” – zelensky said.

Currently, according to Ukrainian law, only men over the age of 25 can be drafted into the army, and even then, there are exceptions that limit how many people can join the Ukrainian armed forces.
