The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported that a new way to avoid criminal liability for corruption is becoming popular in Ukraine. Suspects voluntarily join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The SAPO reported this on Facebook, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

“The mobilization of the accused in the SAPO and NABU cases has become one of the most relevant and popular methods of avoiding criminal liability. So far, 48 people have mobilized to the Armed Forces on their own initiative after the indictments were sent to court,” the agency said.

For this reason, the consideration of cases has been suspended, and the terms for bringing the suspects to justice are expiring. Thus, they can avoid punishment.

It is worth noting that the former head of the State Fiscal Service, Roman Nasirov, who could have received a bribe of UAH 722 million, did not appear in court. His defense claimed that Nasirov could not participate in court hearings because he had volunteered to serve in the Armed Forces. The lawyers asked the judge to suspend the proceedings for this reason.

on April 10, the General Staff of the Armed Forces reported that Nasirov’s mobilization was canceled due to zero tolerance for corruption.
