The Office of the President again responded to calls from foreign partners to lower the mobilization age in Ukraine
28 November 11:56It makes no sense for Ukraine to lower the mobilization age, as it does not receive the promised weapons from its partners in time to arm those who have already been mobilized. This was stated on the social network X by Presidential Communications Advisor Dmytro Lytvyn, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
“There is no point in the calls addressed to Ukraine to lower the mobilization age, apparently to draft more people, when we see that the previously announced equipment is not arriving on time. Because of these delays, Ukraine lacks weapons to arm the soldiers already mobilized,” the presidential adviser said, responding to the relevant reports in the Western media.
Reuters and the Associated Press reported the day before, citing US officials, that the administration of current US President Joe Biden is calling on Ukraine to revise its mobilization legislation to allow young people from the age of 18 to join the army in order to increase the number of armed forces.
Earlier, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in an interview with PBS that in addition to weapons, Ukraine needs additional human resources to strengthen its positions on the front line.
“We believe that it is not only the weapons system that is crucial in this battle. It’s about human resources, and we think Ukraine needs to do more to strengthen its position in terms of the number of forces it has on the front line,” Sullivan said at the time.
As of now, the Ukrainian government is not going to lower the mobilization age. A little more than a week ago, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in parliament.
“We are not going to lower the mobilization age, but we will offer contracts with a motivational package to those who have not reached the mobilization age,” the head of state said.
At the same time, he said that the Ministry of Defense and the military leadership should introduce a new system of contracts for service in the Armed Forces for citizens who have not reached the age of mobilization but want to prove themselves. The contracts will have a motivational component. Such proposals are already being prepared.
