JSC Ukrzaliznytsia is developing a model for changing passenger fares. It is planned that ticket prices will depend on the popularity of routes and time of day. The head of Ukrzaliznytsia’s passenger division, Oleksandr Pertsovsky, said this in an interview with Forbes, according to
According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia is currently developing a model that includes several tariff changes.
The first of them is a gradual moderate increase in basic tariffs annually, taking into account inflation.
In addition, Ukrzaliznytsia has asked the government to remove state regulation of the price of “SV” class tickets.
“Despite their high price, they are sold out the fastest,” explained Pertsovsky.
He noted that Ukrzaliznytsia also offers flexible pricing for all classes of Intercity trains. Pertsovsky does not rule out that certain price ceilings may be set.
Another suggestion is to introduce a more flexible, dynamic tariff model so that ticket prices can be varied depending on hours and days and other parameters. At the same time, the most affordable fares will remain for those who are concerned about the cost.
Pertsovsky assured that Ukrainians will definitely be able to buy affordable tickets until the end of the war.
“This is our obligation as a social company,” summed up the head of Ukrzaliznytsia’s passenger business.
It is worth noting that Ukrzaliznytsia did not respond to the information request
Komersant ukrainskyi said that ticket prices for suburban trains would not change until the end of martial law in Ukraine. The last time Ukrzaliznytsia raised ticket prices was in December last year, but then the cost of tickets changed only on international routes – some by 3% to 72% depending on the direction.
Ukrainians began complaining on social media about problems with buying tickets for Ukrzaliznytsia trains. They say that as soon as sales open 20 days before the planned trip, the app stops working. Once the “technical issues” are resolved, tickets are no longer available – they are all bought out. Previously, difficulties in purchasing tickets arose only for international flights, in particular from Kyiv to Chisinau or Warsaw. Now, problems arise even when buying tickets for trains within Ukraine, including to Mukachevo, Uzhhorod, Odesa, etc
