Ukrposhta introduces new tariffs for parcel delivery
23 December 14:12Starting January 1, 2025, Ukrposhta will introduce a parcel delivery tariff approach that will depend on the volume rather than weight. This was announced by the company’s CEO Ihor Smelyansky, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
“Starting January 1, 2025, Ukrposhta will introduce new tariffs for parcel delivery. But these will not be simple tariffs. For the first time in the history of Ukrposhta (and most likely in Ukraine), we are abandoning weight-based tariffs. Yes, completely. So we will have “weightless” tariffs. The tariff will depend solely on the volume. As it happens with global market leaders such as FedEx or UPS. It will not depend on the volume weight, but only on the volume,” Smelyansky said.
The Ukrposhta CEO notes that this decision will make tariffs more affordable, convenient and fair.
Smelyansky emphasizes that the lowest tariff will remain unchanged, the “Basic” tariff will be 50% lower than competitors’, and the “Priority” tariff will allow delivering the parcel faster.
“Yes, we have revised some of the tariffs, but the lowest tariff will remain unchanged, while the rest remain the most affordable on the market and give the customer a choice of what he or she needs: those who need it faster can send it with the Priority tariff, and those who need to save money (up to 50% lower than competitors’ prices) can use the Basic tariff,” he said.
The cost of delivery will be fixed. It can be determined using standard Ukrposhta boxes or your own packaging.
“I often see in comments on social media or videos on Instagram and TikTok the dissatisfaction of customers who have to pay for a 3 kg parcel as if it were 10 kg or for an 11 kg parcel as if it were 30 kg. So, firstly, we will not have kilograms, and secondly, we will have 8 sizes for tariffs. So you pay only for the volume you send,” Smelyansky added.
At the same time, when sending a parcel, it will be necessary to indicate the weight of the parcel to control its integrity and in case “someone sends weights.”
“First, to control the integrity of the parcel, it’s easier to ensure that nothing is stolen. Secondly, I understand that someone can send weights. That’s the first thing everyone asks when I say we’re giving up weight. So, to prevent the weights from falling on New Year’s toys, we will use the weight in our operational processes,” said Ukrposhta CEO.
Smelyansky added that the delivery of non-standard parcels will remain possible, but will require an additional fee of UAH 50 for manual handling.
As of November 1, Ukrposhta switched to automated parcel sorting, which will allow delivering parcels between cities in one day.
