Ukrhydrometcenter warns that a new weather fake is spreading online

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has announced that false and manipulative information about weather conditions is being spread.
“Once again, we are forced to refute the information disseminated by the Telegraf portal, which misinforms the public about meteorological phenomena. Unfortunately, this resource (Telegraf UA) systematically publishes “weather news” that has no scientific basis,” the statement said.
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center noted that the authors, lacking the necessary knowledge of atmospheric processes and the principles of forecast models, try to “analyze” the data and draw their own conclusions.
“This service uses outdated global databases, and some of them have not been updated for a long time. Therefore, it can show emissions from enterprises that are no longer operating or destroyed by the war. This is not real data, but only model calculations!” explained the Ukrhydrometcenter.

As a result, society receives a distorted picture, which, especially during the war, only increases information tension.
“Ventusky, like other similar services, uses numerous models and global databases that are not updated instantly. Do not trust pollution forecasts from unofficial sources such as Ventusky. This is just a model, not real data!” – the center noted.
The Ukrhydrometeorological Center added that anticyclonic weather will remain in Ukraine in the coming days: no rain, low winds and possible temperature inversions. This may temporarily worsen air quality in cities due to emissions from transport and industry, but has nothing to do with the fictional “dirty cloud.”
“According to the current legislation, the only authorized body to issue official warnings about dangerous and natural hydrometeorological phenomena in Ukraine is the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center,” the Center added.
In addition, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center calls on media representatives to adhere to journalistic standards, disseminate meteorological information responsibly and avoid misleading interpretations. They also invite journalists to familiarize themselves with the guide on meteorological literacy.
