Ukrenergo: no power outages are expected. There will also be a significant cold snap

30 January 17:35

There are no forecasts of power supply restrictions due to the cold snap. This was reported today by Ukrenergo, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

The company was forced to refute the false information after “some media and telegram channels spread information today about the threat of forced power outages next week.” These reports called the source of the threat “a significant cold snap predicted by weather forecasters throughout Ukraine”.

“NPC Ukrenergo refutes this information, as there are currently no forecasts of power supply restrictions. The predicted level of temperature drop will not cause significant problems and will not necessitate the use of restrictive measures. The situation in the Ukrainian power system remains stable. Power engineers are working on all scenarios, including in case of a sharp drop in air temperature,” Ukrenergo said in a statement.

The company reminded that the only reason for the forced use of blackouts has always been and remains the destruction of energy infrastructure as a result of Russian missile and drone attacks, and advised to trust only official sources of information and follow the recommendations of energy specialists.

Where did the “cold” forecasts come from?

Ignatiev, chairman of the board of the Ukrainian Association of Renewable Energy, allegedly said that the power would be cut off again in early February due to frost. For example, one of the Telegram channels quoted him as saying this: “When average temperatures drop to -5 degrees, the power system potentially faces a shortage. Probably, morning and evening stabilization blackouts will be introduced.”

What do forecasters say?

Specialized information resources do not promise too low temperatures – neither day nor night. Indeed, some forecast a slight cold snap after February 4: minus 1-2 degrees during the day and minus 5-6 degrees at night. And so on for a week, and then again the usual winter temperatures – plus 1 during the day – minus 4 at night. That is, the forecasts fall short of the average minus 5.

So, once again, we can recall Ukrenergo’s statement that the only reason for the forced use of blackouts has always been and remains the destruction of energy infrastructure as a result of Russian missile and drone attacks, and that we should only trust official sources of information and listen to the recommendations of energy specialists.
