Ukrainians have nothing to worry about: L’Oréal clarifies the situation with La Roche-Posay cream

L’Oreal Ukraine has announced that La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Acne Spot Treatment with benzoyl peroxide, which the company recently withdrew from the US market, was not available in Ukraine and Europe. This is stated in the company’s statement, according to Komersant ukrainskyi
The company notes that this ingredient is used in cosmetics only in the US market, and for the European market (including Ukraine), the ingredient is not used in cosmetics, but is only allowed for medicinal products.
Why was La Roche-Posay cream recalled in the US?
According to Bloomberg, L’Oreal SA voluntarily recalled a batch of this cream due to the detection of traces of benzene, a potentially hazardous substance.
We’re talking about products with benzoyl peroxide, which is a component of cosmetics for problem skin. Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the most popular and effective ingredients in cosmetic products for problem skin, especially when it comes to treating acne.
Testing confirmed that only one batch contained this ingredient, but the brand decided to withdraw the products from the market in cooperation with the FDA.
“In close cooperation with the FDA, we have decided to preemptively withdraw the remaining batch of La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Acne Spot Treatment cream with the current formula from retailers,” L’Oreal SA said in a statement to Bloomberg.
Was the recalled cream sold in Ukraine?
L’Oreal Ukraine explains that La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Acne Spot Treatment contains benzoyl peroxide, an effective anti-acne ingredient that is only approved in the United States for use in cosmetic products.
In Europe, including Ukraine, this ingredient can only be used in pharmaceuticals.

Representatives of L’Oreal emphasize that the brand adheres to high safety standards and undergoes a multi-level quality check at the development stage. Despite the recall of one batch in the United States, Effaclar Duo Acne Spot Treatment has a long history of safe use and poses no threat to consumers.
“To ensure the safety of our products, we undergo an in-depth evaluation process that begins at the earliest stages of product concept and continues after the products have been launched. The product in question in the public communication, Effaclar Duo Acne Spot Treatment with Benzoyl Peroxide, which is sold exclusively in the United States, has a long history of safe and effective use and does not pose a health risk,” L’Oreal Ukraine commented.
Thus, Ukrainian consumers have no reason to be concerned – the recall does not apply to products sold in our country.
