Ukrainian flag on the Moon: presentation of the historic mission at NASA

In January, a memory capsule containing digital symbols of Ukrainian culture, including a version of the national flag, children’s drawings, and photographs, was launched from Florida. The delivery was made by a SpaceX rocket. This was reported by the Spacebit press service, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
The official presentation of the mission took place on February 8, 2025, at NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center.
Pavlo Tanasiuk, the initiator of the launch, and Elvira Gavrilova, the organizer of the event, showed a video of the memory capsule being sent to the moon and discussed the role of the latest technologies in preserving cultural heritage.
Among the guests were Daniel Lieb, head of the Icelandic Space Agency, NASA representatives and scientists.
The evening ended with a performance by the rock band The Hardkiss. The audience was able to discover the Ukrainian ethnos even more.
The next step is to deliver a physical version of the Ukrainian flag to the Moon. This task will be performed by the Asagumo robotic lunar rover equipped with Ukrainian-made sensors. The launch is scheduled for 2025 as part of the upcoming Spacebit mission.
