Ukrainian journalists complain to G7 ambassadors about pressure and threats

The ambassadors of the Group of Seven countries to Ukraine met with a number of Ukrainian journalists to discuss the challenges and threats they face today. This was reported on the official X-channel of the embassies, as well as by the journalists themselves, reports

The meeting was attended by Kyiv Independent editor-in-chief Olha Rudenko, Bihus.Info Denys Bigus, co-founder of Nashi Hroshi Yuriy Nikolov, executive director of Ukrayinska Pravda Andriy Boborykin, editors-in-chief of NV and Detector Media Vitaliy Sych and Nataliya Lyhachova, chairman of the board of Suspilne Mykola Chernotytskyi, head of Interfax-Ukraine news agency Oleksandr Martynenko, deputy director general of Ukrinform Maryna Syngaivska, political analyst Vitaliy Portnikov, and director of the Institute of Mass Information Oksana Romaniuk.

“Insightful meeting of #G7 ambassadors with Ukrainian journalists. Freedom of the media is a fundamental key to a successful democracy,”

– the message reads.

The journalists themselves wrote that they had “complained” to the ambassadors about systematic pressure.

“The Ukrainian media community has complained of systematic pressure following a series of campaigns to discredit independent journalists, often supported by anonymous pro-government Telegram channels. Ukrainian and international media have called on Kyiv to identify those responsible and bring them to justice,”

According to Ukrayinska Pravda, the last two attacks on journalists consisted of surveillance by the secret services of a team of investigative journalists from Bihus.info and a campaign against journalist Yuriy Nkolov, who had uncovered irregularities in the procurement of the Ministry of Defence.
