Ukrainian universities expelled more than 23 thousand men over 30
26 November 15:46Between April and August 2024, 23,448 male students over the age of 30 were expelled from Ukrainian higher education institutions due to poor academic performance and absenteeism.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, according to
According to him, 23,448 men over the age of 30 have been expelled in five months for failing to attend classes and other reasons. Among them, 5805 were expelled after inspections by the State Education Quality Service (SES), and the rest were expelled based on the results of the internal quality assurance systems of universities.
“Perhaps the expulsion of students should not be considered a positive development for the system. But on the other hand, it is a sign of the demanding nature of our higher education institutions. And we should thank the heads of our universities for such a careful attitude to ensuring the quality of the educational process. Obviously, those expelled are those “students” who did not really plan to be students, but wanted to use this status to avoid other responsibilities. The fact that they are no longer in the higher education system is a sign that the system is self-cleaning,” Vynnytsky said.
In addition, the official said that the police opened 8 criminal proceedings against officials of higher education institutions on the basis of the SQA submissions.
Also, the Ministry of Education deprived a number of universities in different regions of Ukraine of their licenses to conduct educational activities, as in 2023-2024 they enrolled men of military age en masse, often in violation of the license limits.
“The Ministry of Education and Science will not tolerate such profanation of the higher education system. Every Ukrainian has the right to receive higher education on a competitive basis. Ukraine needs highly educated citizens today and in the future. To do this, the system must be value-based and free from superfluity,” Vynnytsky summarized.
