Cyber specialists of the Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police and with the assistance of law enforcement agencies of the Czech Republic, conducted a large-scale special operation to neutralize an international hacker group that stole bank accounts and crypto wallets of EU and US citizens.

This was reported by the SBU, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

As a result of comprehensive measures in Ukraine and the EU, law enforcement officers exposed two organizers (developers) and key members of this group.

The defendants stole personal data and robbed bank accounts and cryptocurrency wallets of EU and US citizens using their own developed malware.

According to the investigation, the attackers sent phishing emails with the malware to gain access to their victims’ computers.

After the hack, they stole personal data stored on the victims’ computers, which they used to steal funds from the victims’ electronic accounts and virtual asset wallets.

The investigation also revealed that the defendants sold their own programs on hacker forums, including to groups controlled by Russian special services.

During the searches of the suspects’ residences in Ukraine and the EU, the SBU seized computer equipment, mobile phones, crypto wallets and flash drives with evidence of the crimes.

All participants were served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 361-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (creation for the purpose of unlawful use, distribution or sale of malicious software or hardware, as well as their distribution or sale committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).

The investigation is ongoing to bring to justice all persons involved in the group’s activities. The offenders face real prison terms.
