Ukrainian chess player Ushenina becomes European Rapid champion

Ukrainian chess player Anna Ushenina won gold in rapid and silver in blitz at the European Rapid Chess Championship. This was reported by the International Chess Federation, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
At the European Championships in Monte Carlo, Anna Ushenina won a gold medal in rapid. Sarasadat Hademalsharie from Spain took silver, and another Ukrainian, Yulia Osmak, won bronze.
In the blitz, Ushenina became the vice-champion of Europe. The gold medal went to Alexandra Maltsevskaya, a naturalized Russian who plays for Poland. Another Russian chess player, Alexandra Kosteniuk, representing Switzerland, won bronze.



In 2012-2013, Anna Ushenina held the title of world champion in classical chess. In 2016, she won the European Championship. As a member of the Ukrainian national team, she won the 2006 Chess Olympiad and the 2013 European Championship and 2013 World Cup.
Rapid is a type of chess with reduced time control, when no more than 60 minutes are given for all the moves of the game. In a blitz, only 10 minutes are allotted for them.
