Runner Igor Tsvetov won gold in the 100 metres at the 2024 Paralympics. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to “Suspilne TV channel.
He was ahead of two Russians, Artem Kalashian and Dmitry Safronov, who took second and third place.
“At this time, this race was fundamental, because Ukraine’s position is unchanged – only victory, only forward. I thank all the fans and wish everyone success. I wish our military patience and victories,” Tsvetov told reporters.
He also spoke about his Russian rivals.
“Let them be, they know where they belong. We have proven where they should be. We are strong, invincible and will work only for victory,” the athlete said.
Tsvetov is a 2-time Rio 2016 Paralympic champion in the 100 and 200 metres. In Tokyo, the Ukrainian runner was one step away from a gold medal, finishing second in both events. He holds the title of Master of Sports of Ukraine. He is the 2019 World Champion in the 100 and 200 metres.
In 2016, he received the Order of Merit III class “For achieving high sports results at the XV Summer Paralympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro (Federative Republic of Brazil), showing courage, dedication and will to win, and establishing the international authority of Ukraine”.
on 27 August 2020, Ihor Tsvetov’s name appeared on the Square of Stars in Kyiv. On the same day, he was awarded the OSCE Medal for Peace and Stability, Second Class.
