Ukraine returns bodies of 502 fallen soldiers

The bodies of 502 dead Ukrainian soldiers have been returned to Ukraine. This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
It is noted that among the returned fallen defenders of Ukraine: 397 from the Donetsk direction; 24 from the Luhansk direction; 64 from the Zaporizhzhya direction.
17 dead were returned from morgues in Russia.
The transfer of the bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers is carried out in accordance with the Geneva Conventions. The Armed Forces of Ukraine will transport the repatriated bodies and remains to designated state institutions for further identification.
Law enforcement officials and forensic experts will identify the fallen defenders.
“Together with the expert institutions, the victims will be identified as soon as possible,” the statement said.
After that, the bodies of the heroes will be handed over to their families for a decent burial on their native land.
As a reminder, in early November, the bodies of 563 fallen Ukrainian defenders were returned to Ukraine. Most of the soldiers were killed in the Donetsk sector. The bodies were also returned from morgues in Russia.
