Ukraine to nationalize Tatneft filling stations: what will happen to the network

27 February 21:07

Ukraine has announced the nationalization of a network of gas stations owned by the Russian company Tatneft. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

The decision was made as part of a broader strategy to seize Russian assets in Ukraine in response to the ongoing conflict between the two countries. It is based on legislation adopted in 2022 that allows for the seizure of property of individuals and companies associated with the aggressor state. The goal is to minimize Russia’s economic presence in the country and use these resources to strengthen national security and the economy.

In particular, based on the court decision, the corporate rights of companies directly owned by PJSC Tatneft named after V.D. Shashin were collected for the benefit of the Ukrainian state, namely

  • 100% of the share in the authorized capital of TATNEFT-ASC-UKRAINE LLC;
  • 92.98 % of the share in the authorized capital of LLC “HARKOV-CAPITAL”;
  • 88.97 % of the share in the authorized capital of Poltava-CAPITAL LLC.

The above companies own oil depots, gas stations, non-residential buildings, land plots, fuel trucks and vehicles in Kharkiv and Poltava regions.

It is worth noting that Ukraine has previously nationalized a number of Russian assets, including energy companies and real estate, in order to reduce dependence on Russian capital and strengthen control over strategically important sectors of the economy.

What is known about the TATNEFT filling station network

PJSC TATNEFT named after V.D. Shashin is one of the largest industrial conglomerates in the field of production, refining and sale of petroleum products in Russia. This strategically important company for the aggressor state consistently pays significant taxes to the Russian budget, which are used to develop and support the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation.

Tatneft’s enterprises strengthen Russia’s energy and economic potential, which is used by its political leadership to wage an aggressive war against Ukraine.

In particular, one of the group’s key projects is the TANECO refinery complex in Nizhnekamsk (Tatarstan, Russia), which produces about 20 types of products, including jet fuel and diesel fuel, which are supplied to the Russian military-industrial complex.

In Ukraine, the network of filling stations was represented by TATNEFT-ASC-UKRAINE LLC, headed by Raphael Gainutdinoy. In 2022, the company had UAH 250 million 883 thousand in revenue and owned assets worth UAH 73 million 263 thousand. The list of employees included 584 people.
