Ukraine helped Poland by consuming its electricity

Today, Ukraine consumed 1600 MWh of electricity produced in Poland, thus helping the neighbouring country to cope with the surplus. This was reported by the press service of Ukrenergo, reports комерсант

The company emphasises that it is not about commercial imports, but about emergency assistance provided by Ukraine to Poland. The fact is that the windy weather contributed to the operation of renewable energy power plants and Poland produced too much energy. Between 02:00 and 06:00, the Polish power system had an excess of electricity, so Poland asked neighbouring countries to help with its consumption.

Ukraine helped its neighbours and received additional electricity. At the same time, it is unclear from Ukrenergo’s statement whether Ukraine paid for this electricity or received it for free.

In Ukraine, electricity consumption has increased slightly compared to the previous day.

“Today, despite the stable temperature outside, as of 9:00 a.m., the level of consumption is 1.2% higher than at the same time yesterday, 23 January. The reason is that dense cloud cover across the country interferes with the operation of rooftop solar power plants, which is why households increase electricity consumption from the grid,”

– ukrenergo said in a statement.

The company reports that the overall level of consumption remains high and urges citizens to consume electricity sparingly.
