Hungarian parliament rejects Sweden’s accession to NATO

The extraordinary meeting was called by the opposition to ratify Sweden’s accession to NATO. The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of the United States, Poland, Slovakia and Denmark. However, lawmakers from the ruling Fidesz party boycotted the session. As a result, there was no quorum at the meeting, and the ratification was postponed again.
Fidesz representatives demanded that Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson visit Budapest before ratification.
Hungary remains the only NATO country that has not ratified Sweden’s application to join the Alliance.
