Eco-industrial parks should appear in Ukraine

The model of an “eco-industrial park” is being introduced by a special bill that the Cabinet of Ministers recently submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. Komersant ukrainskyitalked about it. As Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal explained at the time, “this will be an innovative format of industrial sites where businesses will use alternative energy sources, rationalize waste management and optimize the use of water resources.”

What about uranium mining?

In 1950, commercial deposits of uranium ore were found in magnetic iron ore deposits at two local small mines. In 1951, the Eastern Mining and Processing Plant was established in Zhovtova Rika to extract uranium raw materials.

Today, Vostochny Mining and Processing Plant is a state-owned enterprise, one of 28 uranium mining centers in the world and the largest in Europe. It is the only enterprise in Ukraine that extracts natural uranium and produces its oxide concentrate. The company includes a uranium processing complex and three mines – Ingulska, Smolinska and Novokonstantinivska.
