China has responded to the Ukrainian invasion of Russia’s Kursk region by calling on all parties to de-escalate the conflict. This is stated in a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, reports Komersant ukrainskyi
“China has taken note of the situation. China’s position on the Ukrainian issue is consistent and clear. We call on all parties to adhere to the “three principles” of de-escalation, that is, the battlefield should not expand, the war should not intensify, and all parties should not resort to provocations. China will continue to liaise with the international community and play a constructive role in promoting a political settlement of the crisis,”
– china said.
In the West, we recall, they did not see a particular problem with the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk. For example, John Kirby, Strategic Communications Coordinator for the US National Security Council, said that the US sees no problem with Ukraine using US weapons in this operation.
“They are using it in the area that we said they could use US weapons for cross-border strikes. The ultimate goal here is to help Ukraine defend itself,”
– kirby said.
To “finish off” the Russians with his statements, the White House announced another tranche of military aid to Ukraine worth $125 million.
The European Union had a similar reaction. They stated that Ukraine has every right to defend itself, even on Russian territory.
“Ukraine is fighting a defensive war that was imposed on it by Russia’s illegal aggression. Under international law, Ukraine has the legitimate right to defend itself, including to strike the aggressor on its territory. The EU continues to fully support Ukraine’s legitimate right to defend itself against Russian aggression and its efforts to restore Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,”
– Peter Stano, the European Commission’s spokesperson for foreign affairs, told Radio Liberty.
And only Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on the world to “strongly condemn the criminal actions of the Kyiv regime”.
