The Lybidska metro station remains closed for the time being. A child was injured in an excavator incident. This was reported by the Kyiv Metro on its Facebook page, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

“Today, around 17:30, an incident occurred at the Lybidska station: due to a step over the boundary line on the escalator staircase, the child’s shoes got caught between the fixed element (balustrade) of the escalator, which caused the leg to be pinched,” the report says.

Medics, rescuers, and station employees were promptly called to the scene at .

Around 18:00, the child and his grandmother were handed over to paramedics.

“There are no external injuries or bleeding, but the child will be fully diagnosed in a medical facility,” the subway’s press service explained.

The subway also reported that subway specialists are replacing and adjusting some elements of the escalator.

“These works are essential for their safe operation,” the KCSA said.

The subway emphasizes the importance of following the rules of behavior on escalators:

  • do not step over the boundary line;
  • do not run or sit on the escalator;
  • keep an eye on small children, hold them by the hand, and carry them in your arms;
  • do not allow them to touch fixed parts of the escalator.

“Most often, children are injured in the subway because adults are distracted instead of watching them. Inattention leads to injuries and stress for young passengers and their families,” the Kyiv Metro emphasizes.
