An audio recording was posted online in which the son of US President Donald Trump Jr. allegedly claims that the US should have armed Russia, not Ukraine. However, it turned out to be a fake.
This was reported by ABC, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
The audio recording allegedly with the words of Trump Jr. accompanied a video with the page of the American president’s son’s podcast called The Triggered on the Spotify platform.
The footage shows an episode of the podcast being played, but a Spotify spokesperson told reporters that no such episode had been published on the platform.
A voice in the audio that sounds like Donald Trump Jr. says that he “can’t imagine anyone in their right mind choosing Ukraine as an ally when the other option is Russia.” The voice also argues that the United States should be sending weapons to Russia, not Ukraine.
“Just think about it: a huge nuclear power with natural resources that everyone needs, literally the largest country on the planet. And then there is Ukraine, which has Chernobyl and radiation-resistant dogs,” the audio recording says.
The post with the alleged voice of Trump’s son was shared widely on social media. In particular, it was posted on its page on the social network X by FactPostNews, an official initiative of the US Democratic National Committee aimed at rapid response and combating disinformation.
A spokesperson for the Democratic Party told ABC News that they have a clear policy against disinformation and that they removed the post as soon as they learned that the audio was fake. A spokesperson for Donald Trump Jr. also said it was fake.
“The audio in question was shared by the official DNC account on X, as well as many other major anti-Trump accounts, and is 100% fake. It appears to be an artificial intelligence-generated diplomacy spoof,” he said.
