The Verkhovna Rada has restricted the use of the Telegram messenger on official devices. This was announced by the chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, reports [Kommersant]

“Restrictions are in place. This is what an attempt to use Telegram on work devices looks like now,” the MP wrote on his Telegram channel.

Yurchyshyn also posted the relevant photo evidence.

Previously [Kommersant] reported earlier that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine responded to the ban on the use of Telegram for officials and the military and developed a special “policy of use” of the messenger by the parliamentary staff.

According to Yurchyshyn, the Verkhovna Rada staff has developed the following security measures for using Telegram:

  • mandatory two-factor authorisation and cancellation of contact synchronisation. It is also necessary to block access to your computer if you leave it unattended so that unauthorised persons cannot access your account;
  • prohibition of transferring data used in work and official communication in Telegram;
  • prohibition of installing and using the Telegram client on company computers or personal computers used for work purposes;
  • blocking of the messenger by means of hardware and software, recording of requests for unauthorised attempts to connect to the service.

As reported by , the Ukrainian authorities have long been eyeing the messenger and often criticising it. The police constantly complain that drugs are being sold on Telegram, and the military says that it is controlled by Russian special services. Finally, in September, Ukrainian officials and military personnel were banned from using the messenger.
