Editor Yuriy Konkevich and videographer Aleksandr Pilyuk travelled to northern Poland to record trucks and freight trains crossing the border between Poland and the Russian city of Kaliningrad. on 7 March, they were detained by police officers in the town of Braniewo. They confiscated two smartphones, two cameras, a laptop, memory cards, microphones, power banks and selfie sticks from the journalists. on 9 March, Polish border guards brought the journalists to the Dorohusk-Yagodyn checkpoint and expelled them to Ukraine.

According to the journalists, Polish law enforcement officers did not allow them to contact the consulate, the editorial office or their relatives. The confiscated property was never returned to them. And their official deportation from Poland now deprives them of the opportunity to visit Schengen countries for 5 years.

On the Polish border with Kaliningrad, journalists filmed the movement of Russian grain.

Rayon.Zagorod went to the north of Poland, to the border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia, to see how gas and grain from Russia are still flowing through Poland to Europe. We did not meet any checkpoints of Polish farmers there, but instead saw Russian Railways wagons. The Polish police detained us and seized our property, did not inform the consul, did not allow us to call Ukraine, and the Internal Security Agency called us persons threatening the national security of Poland and expelled us,”

– said journalist Yuriy Konkevych.

The reason for the detention was that the Polish police had taken photos of critical infrastructure, namely Russian liquefied gas wagons.

The editorial board of Rayon.in.ua called on the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine to appeal to the Association of Polish Journalists and the International and European Federation of Journalists to protect the rights of journalists.

Based on the results of the trip, the journalists prepared the following story:

Earlier, on 27 February, journalist Mykhailo Tkach and his cameraman were detained in Poland while filming the crossing of a cargo ship across the Polish-Belarusian border.
