Ukrainian national basketball player killed in Germany

A 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player, Volodymyr Yermakov, was killed in an armed attack in Dusseldorf, Germany. Another Ukrainian basketball player, Artem Kozachenko, is in intensive care. This was reported by citing information from the Kyiv Basketball Federation.
“Volodya and his friend Artem Kozachenko played for the ART Giants (U-19) youth team from Düsseldorf. On the eve of the next match, the young basketball players were attacked with knives in the street simply because they were Ukrainians! According to preliminary information, the perpetrators are eight young men of Arab appearance,”
– the statement reads.
Police are reportedly investigating the incident, and there were witnesses at the scene.
Volodymyr Yermakov began his basketball career in Kyiv, playing in the children’s teams Teivaz and 5T.E.A.M.-DUSSH-12 (born in 2006). As a member of the Ukrainian U-16 national team, he played at the 2022 European Championships in Bulgaria.
