Damage to two submarine telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea should be considered sabotage. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said this in Brussels, Komersant ukrainskyiKomersant Ukrainian reports.

“No one believes that these cables were cut by accident. I also don’t want to believe in the version that it was ship anchors that accidentally caused the damage,” Boris Pistorius said, as quoted by Reuters.

As you know, on November 18, the Finnish authorities announced the damage to the submarine telecommunications cable that runs through the Baltic Sea between Finland and Germany.

And on Tuesday, Reuters reported, citing a representative of Arelion, the owner and operator of the cable, that the cable between Lithuania and Sweden was “completely out of commission.”

Finland and Germany have already decided to jointly investigate the damage to the telecommunications cable in the Baltic Sea. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.

“European security is under threat not only because of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine, but also because of the hybrid war of intruders. Protecting our common critical infrastructure is vital for our security and the resilience of our societies,” the Finnish and German foreign ministers said in a joint statement, adding that a thorough investigation is already underway.

Meanwhile, the Lithuanian Navy, according to Reuters, said on Tuesday that it had stepped up surveillance of the Baltic Sea.
