When communicating with veterans, you can thank them with a look and a smile, but you should be careful with your gestures.
This was stated by Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs Dmytro Finashyn, according to the Communication Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
“If you want to thank a veteran, do it with a look, a smile, or a hand to the heart. Do not avoid eye contact. Be careful with your gestures. Veterans are instinctively watching their hands because a person may be armed,” he said.
Finashyn noted that it is normal for ordinary citizens not to change their habit of hugging if they are used to it in the civilian past.
“However, in this case, it is worth asking: “Can I hug you?”. If you have never hugged this person and suddenly decide to, it may be tactless and inappropriate. Do not approach abruptly and without warning. Also, don’t do it from behind,” explained the advisor to the Interior Minister.
As reported, at the initiative of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, within the framework of the communication campaign “Are you okay?” All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program, the series “People with War Experience. Dignity. Interaction” was created. It is a continuation of the section of the same name in the “Barrier-Free Handbook” – a guide to correct communication.
