In Ukraine, there are critically few children involved in sports. This was announced by Serhiy Bykov, Deputy Head of the Strategic Planning and Communications Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, during a special media project by Komersant ukrainskyi, Children’s Sport: A Business That Is Not Possible Without .
“Only 8% of our children go in for sports. That is, 92% of Ukrainian children are deprived of the opportunity to play sports. If we’re talking about regular physical activity, I mean not physical education classes, but regular football and basketball,” he said.
At the same time, about 16% of Ukrainian schoolchildren in grades 5-11 do not have any physical activity or do not play sports during the year. These are the results of a sociological study conducted as part of the Ukrainian-Swiss project “Acting for Health”.
At the same time, over 66% of children understand the importance of physical activity and exercise. They are ready to play sports and try something new. More than half of children, 54%, do something regularly.
