Prices per kilogram and liter of goods may soon appear in stores
27 December 10:04The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has registered a bill that would oblige stores to indicate the price of products in common measurements, such as liter or kilogram, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
The draft law No. 12358 was registered on December 25 and has already been sent to the committee. It was signed by a number of MPs from the Servant of the People party, so the likelihood of its adoption is quite high.
“Currently, Ukrainian legislation does not contain clear requirements for the mandatory indication of the price per unit of measurement of goods, which makes it difficult for consumers to make a conscious choice and compare prices for goods,”
– reads the explanatory note to the draft law.

Thus, the document proposes the following changes to the Law on Consumer Protection
- the obligation of sellers to indicate the price per unit of measurement
of the goods - specific units of measurement for different categories of goods are defined
(kilogram, liter, square meter, meter, cubic meter, ton); - establishes a list of cases that are not subject to the requirements for
to indicate the price per unit of measurement.
If passed, this law will put an end to the current manipulation of consumers by producers, when there are many products of different volumes and weights on the shelves, and it is very difficult to understand the real price per liter or kilogram of goods.
The draft law does not contain the “European integration” label, but even its title indicates that it is initiated to implement Directive 98/6/EC of the European Parliament and of the European Council.
