The IAEA said that one of the substations near the Russian-seized Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Enerhodar was probably attacked by a drone. Experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency recorded the sounds of explosions in the area. This was reported by the press service of the organisation, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
It is noted that the IAEA experts were forced to seek shelter due to the presence of drones in the area where they were working. Another group heard anti-aircraft fire and a powerful explosion during an air raid alert. Another team visited the site of a suspected drone attack.
During the week, the sounds of explosions were also recorded on the territory of ZNPP, including several near the plant site. At the same time, according to the IAEA, there were no reports of damage to the nuclear power plant itself.
In addition, a possible drone strike was reported on a 35/6 kV substation located about 300 metres from the plant. This substation supplies electricity to facilities not related to the plant’s safety systems, including a network water pumping station, a water management station and external warehouses.
Visiting the affected facility the day after the alleged attack, the IAEA team observed “some impact” on one of the substation’s two transformers. They also found the remains of batteries and metal parts of a suspected drone on the site. The station said that repair work was still ongoing.
