Lviv hosted the National Championship in jezve and latte art, organized by the Specialty Coffee Association, which represents thousands of coffee professionals – from producers to baristas – from around the world. The championship was announced by its organizers, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
Baristas from all over Ukraine came to compete and were chosen as the best. The championship was held in two nominations – making coffee in a jezve (which is what Turkish coffee is made in) and latte art (i.e., the technique of drawing on coffee), and in two stages – the first round and the final.

How the coffee masters competed in the jezve
According to the rules of the championship, the participants were evaluated by two sensory judges (taste judges), two technical judges, and one chief judge.
The participants first presented the judges with a signature drink or traditional coffee, and then a simple coffee made in a jezve. The judges tasted the drinks hot and warm.
The winners of the Jezva Championship 2025 are:
1st place – Oleksii Yurkevskyi.
2nd place – Ivan Bilousov.
3rd place – Maxim Golubchenko.

How the latte art competition took place
At the first stage of the championship, baristas created one creative drawing sample at the Art Bar, and then moved to the stage to perform to create two identical free-flow drawings and two identical design drawings.
The scores were totaled and the top 12 went on to the semi-final round, where participants made two matching sets of different free-pour designs and one matching set of free-pour macchiato.
The six best semi-finalists advanced to the final round, where they made two different, matching sets of free-flow drawings and one set of original drawings.
The baristas were judged on the basis of visual attributes, creativity, identity of the drawings in pairs, contrast of the drawings, and overall performance.
The winners of the 2025 Latte Art Championship are:
1st place – Arthur Kravchuk.
2nd place – Yevhen Mazur.
3rd place – Natalia Sus.

According to the organizers, the national championship united the participants with a single goal – to develop coffee culture in Ukraine, because coffee is not only a delicious and aromatic drink, but also brings people together and allows them to enjoy it.
What’s next
The organizers said that the winners of the competition will have a unique opportunity to represent Ukraine at the World Championship in Geneva on June 26-28.
By the way, representatives of Ukraine already have a pleasant experience of participating in such competitions. For example, the Ukrainian representative, commercial manager of Idealist Coffee and national champion in jezve brewing Ivan Bilousov took 3rd place at the World Coffee Championship in 2019. This is the best result for Ukraine in this specialization.

The previous World Coffee Championship of the 2024 season brought together more than 80 participants from around the world. The competition was held from June 27 to 29 in Copenhagen, Denmark, at World of Coffee Copenhagen. Participants were nominated in the following categories: coffee and alcohol, jezve, latte art, and roasting.
