Tomorrow, 12 September, Kyiv will resume full train traffic between Heroiv Dnipra and Teremky metro stations on the blue line. This was announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
Klitschko said that the commissioning works on the renovated section of the tunnel between Demiivska and Lybidska stations have been completed. The whole complex of works lasted 9 months.
“During this time, we prepared the construction site, relocated more than 200 cable networks, including those of DTEK, Ukrtelecom and others. We excavated a pit over 15 metres deep, dismantled the old 27-metre-long tunnel and built a new one. The tunnel lining adjacent to the new section was also reinforced on both sides (with a total length of over 50 metres). New tracks were laid, all engineering networks were restored, and train safety systems were set up,” said the mayor of Kyiv.
According to him, the estimated cost of the entire complex of works was UAH 383 million, which is UAH 62 million less than the original cost.
In addition, along with the repairs, expert studies were carried out to identify the causes. In particular, there were errors at the design and construction stages:
- the tunnel lining was designed to operate at a much lower groundwater level;
- the tunnel lining was constructed poorly with violations of the ring installation tolerances;
- no compensatory measures (chemical consolidation of soils) were taken, including to prevent the impact of the tunnel’s shear forces in the area of changes in the engineering and geological conditions of the foundation;
- the tunnel stiffness is lower than the design one due to the use of wall blocks instead of tray blocks (reduced thickness and lack of ribs).
In addition, laboratory tests have confirmed gross violations during construction in terms of the lack of chemical consolidation of the soils around the tunnel.
Earlier, Kommersant Ukrayinsky ‘s sources in the Kyiv City State Administration reported that several stations on the Blue Line of the Kyiv Metro are being prepared to close. These are Pochayna and Taras Shevchenko stations.
As reported, the State Audit Service of Ukraine, during an audit of the Kyiv Metro utility, found violations and losses worth more than UAH 200 million.
It should be noted that on 8 December 2023, an accident occurred at the overrunning tunnel between Demiivska and Lybidska stations due to depressurisation of the tunnel and cracks in the walls. The case is now being investigated by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
The repair of Lybidska and Demiivska metro stations will cost almost UAH 400 million.
We would like to add that the director of Kyiv Metro , Viktor Braginsky, resigned after investigative journalists from Bihus.Info discovered that his mother owns two apartments in the capital, and his ex-wife owns luxury real estate and a land plot.
