On the night of 30-31 August, the first test train ran on the renovated section of the Kyiv metro between Lybidska and Demiivska stations. This was announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
This train included a special carriage that tests the new trackbed. In particular, it checks compliance with the proper track gauge, indents and possible subsidence. The car also checks and tests the test train and safety systems at different speeds.
Klitschko noted that in order to launch the first test train, a set of preparatory works was carried out to connect the structures of the existing tunnel with the new part of the tunnel and reinforced sections.
Among other things, all the necessary power supply, signalling and communication cable networks were laid, the contact rail for train power was installed and connected, and train safety systems were installed and set up.
“In the future, engineering and safety systems will be thoroughly checked at night before the full resumption of train traffic with passengers. The work is ongoing around the clock to resume train traffic in the coming weeks,” Klitschko assured.
