Ukrposhta branches started burning down in Kyiv

28 October 13:09

At least two Ukrposhta offices were set on fire in Kyiv. Presumably, this was done because these offices were used to deliver summonses to the TCC. The incidents were reported by writer Andriy Kokotyukha on Facebook, reports Komersant UkrainianKomersant Ukrainian.

According to the available information, unknown persons poured fuel oil on the doors of the offices and set them on fire. Postal workers attribute these incidents to the fact that Ukrposhta has started delivering summonses from territorial recruitment centres.

“Our Ukrposhta office was set on fire. They poured fuel oil on the door and set it on fire. At the same time, another branch in the neighbourhood was also on fire. At the post office, they told me it was because the post office carries TAC summonses. I don’t know how the postmen found out about it. Perhaps there was some kind of warning. Maybe one of the versions. But as long as the post office did not carry subpoenas, there really were no arsons,”

– the writer wrote.

So far, neither Ukrposhta nor the police have provided any official comment on the incident.

Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smelyansky recently said that Ukrposhta has delivered 20,000 calls for service for people liable for military service.

And the Cabinet of Ministers has made further changes to its resolutions, according to which persons liable for military service have three days to pick up the summons from the post office, otherwise they will be fined. The time limit for appearing under a summons has also been reduced.

Sending summonses by post, as reported Komersant Ukrainian, the government simplified the mailing of subpoenas on 25 June. Now, a summons will be considered served even if the subscriber did not receive it in his hands or pick it up from the post office, but if he was duly notified of it, for example, via SMS. These rules actually provide for the possibility of imposing fines in absentia in case of failure to appear under a summons.

By the end of the year, the government plans to send out 900,000 summonses by mail, in a new format.
