The conclusion of a strategic partnership agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom for a period of 100 years has caused serious concern in the Kremlin. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to Russian media.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed concern over the move, saying that the UK’s presence as a NATO member and its military infrastructure are approaching Russia’s borders, which poses a threat to the Kremlin.

“Given the fact that the UK is a NATO member, the advancement of its military infrastructure towards our borders is certainly an element that is quite worrying,” Peskov emphasized.

He added that the Kremlin will closely monitor the developments that will take place next.

Of particular concern in Russia was the clause of the agreement concerning cooperation in the Azov Sea. Peskov noted that the Azov Sea is “Russia’s inland sea.”

“It is indeed Russia’s inland sea. It is unlikely that any cooperation between Ukraine and the UK is possible there,” he summarized.

As a reminder, the day before, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed an agreement on a 100-year partnership between the two countries. The agreement contains a closed, secret part.

The agreement will promote military cooperation in the field of maritime security through a new structure that will strengthen security in the Baltic, Black and Azov Seas.

The agreement will help bring together experts from the two countries to develop scientific and technological partnerships in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, space, and drone production.

A new scheme developed by the UK will also be launched to help track grain stolen by Russians from the occupied Ukrainian territories.
