In Khmelnytskyi, police detained a drunk driver who drove into a public transport stop. This was reported by the National Police, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
It is noted that at first the driver of a BMW X6, moving along Zarichanska Street, drove into a public transport stop.
“The driver of the BMW X6 made a tangential collision with a Skoda Octavia and a Mazda, after which he drove into a public transport stop,” the statement said.
As a result of the accident, three women (60, 56 and 53 years old) who were standing at the bus stop at the time died from their injuries.
The driver was driving with obvious signs of intoxication. The police detained him at the scene.
Investigators opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 4 of Art. 286-1 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles in a state of intoxication, which caused the death of several people) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for 7 to 12 years in prison.
The patrol police of Khmelnytsky region noted that due to the accident with victims on Zarichanska Street, they had to block traffic. The traffic restriction is in effect from Peremohy Street to Svobody Street.
