25 December 09:50A passenger plane crashed in Kazakhstan, near Aktau. It was flying from the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, to the city of Grozny in Russia. This is reported by the local edition of Tengrinews, Komersant ukrainskyi informs.
“A flight from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau. This plane belongs to Azerbaijan Airlines,” the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.
A video of the crash was posted on social media.
At 11:10 a.m., Kazaeronavigatsiya received information that an Embraer 190 AHY8243, en route Baku – Grozny, declared an emergency due to a collision with a bird and a violation of steering control with a landing in Aktau.
According to the Russian Telegram channel Mash, the plane was diverted to Makhachkala and then to Aktau due to fog in Grozny. There were 105 passengers and 5 crew members on board, all citizens of Russia and Azerbaijan.
Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova said that six passengers of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane that crashed near Aktau survived, Informburo.kz reports .
“According to the Ministry of Health, there are six survivors. Now we have prepared air ambulances to go and send specialists, traumatologists, neurosurgeons, and so on. We will provide assistance on the spot and evacuate them if necessary. The work is underway,” she said.
The Civil Aviation Committee reported on the number of passengers on board.
“According to preliminary information from the Azerbaijani side, there were 62 passengers and five crew members on board,” the CAA said.
The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan said that the fire at the crash site was completely extinguished.
