Therefore, we are waiting for feedback on the graduates from unit commanders and proposals for further increasing the basic combined arms training,” noted the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He also said that the training of tactical officers was not left without attention, the content of which needs to be improved, including an increase in the duration of training. The heads of higher military educational institutions and combat brigade commanders made relevant proposals.
It was proposed to launch advanced training courses to train staff officers in certain areas of activity.
What does the new military training program envisage?
Starting November 1, the duration of mandatory basic general military training for recruits in the training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was increased from 30 to 45 days. According to Yevhen Mezhevikin, Deputy Head of the Main Department of Doctrine and Training of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a pilot project to increase the duration of training at four training centers, which involved approximately 500 recruits, launched in October, has shown good results. Therefore, on November 1, all training centers were switched to 45 days of training.
He explained that the new basic program was extended by 78 hours. Among the key changes are increased firearms training (33 hours), tactical training (6 hours), and comprehensive tactical training (18 hours). In addition, the new program includes 45 shooting exercises (previously 23).

Additional practice also includes mastering collective weapons, countering enemy UAVs, and the basics of electronic warfare. Companies of unmanned systems are also being introduced in the training centers. In addition, a course for basic level instructors has been introduced.
The increase in the duration of training is being introduced as part of the “Saving Military Lives” program aimed at improving the training of Ukrainian defenders.
The basic general military training abroad will be extended to 1.5 months from January 2025.
It is also worth recalling that the United Kingdom and 12 partner countries have already trained 50,000 Ukrainian military personnel as part of the multinational training operation INTERFLEX, which is being conducted in the United Kingdom.
