The Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned of a fraudulent scheme involving fake websites and accounts for thousands of hryvnias under the Winter eSupport program. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the agency, fraudsters create fake websites and accounts offering alleged government payments.

The criminals ask you to follow a link and enter your bank card details.

They then use the information to charge funds from the cards.

How to protect yourself

To protect yourself from fraudsters, the Ministry of Internal Affairs urges not to enter card details, PIN, Internet banking login and password, one-time passwords or codes from SMS on suspicious websites.

Ukrainians are also urged to check information only on official resources.

“Remember: banks and government agencies never ask for your card details via social media or third-party sites,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes.

It should be noted that Ukrainians continue to fall victim to fraudsters who use popular topics for phishing attacks. This time, the scammers took advantage of the trust of pensioners, offering them “financial assistance” from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Writer and journalist Masha Serdyuk told us how her mother became a victim of fraud.

It should be noted that every Ukrainian will be able to receive a thousand hryvnias, as announced by Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This includes adults and children. However, according to media reports, Ukrainians living abroad, even if they have refugee status, will not be able to receive the payment. This means that they will need to undergo verification of their place of residence before receiving the payment.
