Russia faces the possibility of being at a disadvantage if it does not show flexibility in peace talks with Ukraine. This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on his way to Kyiv after a visit to Moscow, the Anadolu news agency reported on Telegram.

“We are now heading to Ukraine. We will have meetings with Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” Fidan said.

According to him, Turkey, like during its visit to Russia, will again convey its position and vision on the situation, emphasizing the urgent need for a ceasefire.

“Both sides usually want a ceasefire. Both sides have different requirements for a ceasefire. These demands need to be harmonized. That is why negotiations and mediation exist,” the minister explained.

Fidan noted that countries that, like Turkey, are involved in diplomatic initiatives can offer new approaches and perspectives that play an important role in finding a solution to the conflict.

“All responsible countries should take action and do their part. America also has an important role to play. Mr. Trump has been very clear from the beginning. Ukraine and the European side have demonstrated flexibility in adapting to the US position. When Russia cannot demonstrate the same flexibility, it may find itself at a disadvantage in the eyes of America,” he added.

The minister emphasized that Turkey is already performing many of the functions usually associated with mediation: “This is not a process that can be realized by only one mediator.”

“We are negotiating with Russians, Ukrainians, and Europeans. They themselves turn to us, ask for advice,” Fidan summarized.
